My thoughts on Judge Kavanaugh

Last night, President Trump nominated D.C. Court of Appeals Judge Brett Kavanaugh to fill retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy's vacancy on the Supreme Court.

Judge Kavanaugh has been presented to the American people with impeccable academic credentials and expansive professional experience. Most recently, he served for 12 years on the bench of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. He has written over 300 judicial opinions and the Supreme Court has endorsed his opinions more than a dozen times. His 100 most-cited opinions have been used by more than 210 judges. As President Trump noted, Kavanaugh, "is a judge's judge."

Major win at Supreme Court

The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled 5-4 that crisis pregnancy centers cannot be forced to promote abortions. The opinion was authored by Justice Thomas in favor of National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA) v. Becerra, one of four cases brought by crisis pregnancy centers that challenged a California law as a violation of the First Amendment. Justice Kennedy filed a concurring opinion joined by Justices Roberts, Alito, and Gorsuch.

Liberty Counsel's case, Mountain Right to Life v. Becerra, is one of four cases before the Supreme Court involving the same law. Liberty Counsel represents three pro-life crisis pregnancy centers in Southern California, all of which offer women pregnancy resources, counseling, advice, and alternatives to abortion.

Proof of SPLC bias

The Southern Poverty Law Center has agreed to pay a $3.375 million settlement as the result of a demand from an Islamic reformer and his foundation for being included in the SPLC's now-defunct "anti-Muslim extremists" list published in December 2016. The settlement is tangible proof that the SPLC, which amounts to little more than a leftist instrument of political warfare against those with whom it disagrees, fully deserves the infamy which it has lately earned.

Florida censors counseling of minors

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – Liberty Counsel has filed suit in federal court against the City of Boca Raton and Palm Beach County for their adoption of City Ordinance 5407 and County Ordinance 2017-046, which prohibit minors in Boca Raton and Palm Beach County from receiving voluntary counseling from licensed professionals to reduce or eliminate their unwanted same-sex attractions, behaviors or gender confusion.

SPLC's Escalating Attacks

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is engaged in a two-pronged strategy to destroy pro-faith groups. At the center of the strategy are direct economic assaults on organizations like Liberty Counsel. That's why the SPLC has dragged Liberty Counsel into a very costly lawsuit that has already dragged on for months with no end in sight.

As part of this strategy, the SPLC launches aggressive public relations campaigns to destroy the reputation of the groups they have maligned as "Hate Groups" by pressuring major companies into blacklisting them. We even found a "smoking gun" letter from Morris Dees, the Founder and Chief Trial Counsel for the SPLC, in which he outlines the strategy. According to Dees:

Victory in Colorado Cake Case

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 7-2 today in Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, a historic case that protects the right to free exercise of religion against the LGBT "sexual orientation" law that was being used to force a Christian baker to violate his conscience.

The Court ruled that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission violated the neutrality required by the First Amendment by making disparaging comments against Jack Phillips' religious beliefs regarding same-sex "marriage." Jack Philips, the owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop, refused to use his artistic talents and expression to promote a same-sex ceremony.

Liberty Counsel filed an amicus brief in this case defending Jack Philips' right to freedom of expression.

LC victory for Alabama SC Justice

The Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission (JIC) has agreed to settle Liberty Counsel's lawsuit on behalf of Alabama Supreme Court Justice Tom Parker with a permanent injunction, which will bar the use of judicial ethics canons to censor judges' public comments.

This is an important victory for free speech, not just for Justice Tom Parker. Here's why...

Faith Leaders Targeted By Anti-Marriage Groups

Liberty Counsel's legal team has filed an objection to a staggering subpoena from Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund (Lambda Legal) on behalf of Dr. Ronnie Floyd, senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Springdale and The Church at Pinnacle Hills, and Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council (FRC), in the case of Karnoski v. Trump.

Floyd and Perkins have been targeted by these activists for simply participating in President Trump's Evangelical Executive Advisory Board, which the president established to understand the concerns of Christians and receive counseling on a wide range of issues.
